Background
Founded in Lugano in 1952, Cornèr Bank is a private and independent Swiss banking institution. First in Switzerland to launch the Visa credit card in 1975, Cornèr Bank became a major player in shaping the Swiss credit card industry through on-going innovation. In addition to Visa, Cornèr Bank integrated the MasterCard credit card in its portfolio in 1998. With many years of experience and a host of value-added services, Cornèr Bank has earned the confidence of over 600,000 cardholders.

Today, Cornèr Bank is also recognized as a pioneer in the Internet area. It was one of Europe’s first banks to introduce the standards of Secure E-Commerce and has continued to strive for the further development of credit card services in the areas of e-commerce and mobile commerce

Opportunity:

  • Cornèr Bank needed a cost efficient and innovative solution to address the mobile needs of credit cards customers.
  • The mobile services (saldo per SMS, last transaction per SMS / Mobile Internet and SMS alerting) for Cornèr Bank credit cards customers needed to address up 600’000 cardholders.
  • From a technical point of view, the integration with heterogeneous legacy back-end systems was required.
  • The solution needed to be flexible and performant enough to allowing for the integration of future mobile services.
  • Solution:

  • Cornèr Bank committed to the development of JAVA/J2EE technology as its principal architecture for the software solution for the mobile services.
  • With help of Crealogix AG, Cornèr Bank managed to implement and launch the mobile services in less than 1 year using JBoss AS.
  • The mobile services currently runs on Intel-based servers.
  • Results:

  • An optimal integration with existing back-end systems using JMS provided by JBoss AS.
  • An optimal time-to-market delivery of the mobile services for Cornèr Bank cardholders.
  • An immediate savings compared with purchase of the leading proprietary products.
